I Just Saw the New Star Trek Movie!

And it was AWESOME!

Don’t even get me started on the part where I paid $10.25 for a small popcorn and a small coke (neither of which were all that small) because I didn’t have time to have dinner before the movie because DAMN that is a ripoff.

Seriously though, I loved it. I went to see it with Ted and Mike because their wives didn’t want to see it and my husband didn’t want to see it, so that worked out pretty nice.

I laughed, I cried, I want to see it again! (Ok, so maybe I didn’t actually cry, but I did get a little misty there for a minute. That totally counts.)

And also? I read somewhere online (as did Mike) that there was something during the credits so we waited. And there was nothing. So apparently you can’t believe everything you read on the internet (especially if you can’t even remember where you read it). Go figure.

Happy New Year!

Like 4 days ago, but whatever.

Apparently I haven’t posted yet this year, but it wasn’t intentional. I was just really busy….

Being insulted by my Wii, getting caught up with Californication, whining about having to go back to working a normal work week. You know, super important stuff like that.

So has everyone made New Years resolutions? I don’t normally really make real resolutions because I don’t like being disappointed when I give up on them so this year I’m sticking with the easy stuff.

I resolve to buy more cute shoes.

I resolve to actually start wearing some of the ridiculously cute skirts that I can’t resist buying even though all they do is sit in my closet and wonder why I don’t love them.

I resolve to learn all of the words to all of the songs in Mama Mia.

I resolve to read the rest of Charlaine Harris‘ books this year because I don’t know how else to pass the time until the next Sookie Stackhouse and Harper Connelly books come out!

I know, I know! I’m aiming high this year.

I’m sure there’s more but that’s pretty much all I can think of for right now.

I don’t really have anything interesting to say right now so I’m going to pretend my opinion matters and “review” some of the movies I’ve seen recently. I’m a pretty easy sell on movies so pretty much thumbs up for all of them.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Thank you Redbox. After the disaster that was Strange Wilderness we decided to pre-view some movies through rental before spending actual money for them. This movie turned out to be really good though. It was written by Jason Segel and I think we’ve all seen the scenes in the previews where he’s dumped by his girlfriend while he’s naked. Well I’m here to tell you that he is, in face, actually completely naked. Completely. Consider yourself warned. All that aside It was really a nice story as he runs to Hawaii to get over his girl, only to find her (and her new man) there on vacation too.

After watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall my awesome husband let me choose what movie to watch. I had Atonement and August Rush saved on the DVR and he asked which one I wanted to watch and what they were about. I described both movies to him and he looked at me like I was crazy and then went upstairs to watch sports in the bonus room. Oh well!

I chose August Rush and let me just say that freaking little boy was adorable and I really enjoyed the movie. I also really hate it when Robin Williams plays these super creepy guys. Probably because he actually does a really good job at it and I just hate to see him as a creep! It seriously disturbs me. That being said the music was awesome as this boy who had been living in foster care tries to use music to find the parents he’s never met but is sure are out there. So good, maybe not such a manly movie though.

Atonement – I was told the movie was very pretty and after seeing it I think that’s about all I have to say also. It was very pretty. The music was nice. It was long, and kind of boring and I slept through part of it. But it was pretty. If you’re looking for pretty and artistic this is your movie.. otherwise? Boring. Sorry. Boring.

Hairspray – I know it came out a while ago but I’m just now catching up, thank you HBO! Anyways, it was cute, and I love musicals, and I could NOT get past John Travola’s annoying freaking voice as Edna. Overall I have no problem with him as Edna except that VOICE. And I love Christopher Walken. Cute movie. Makes me want to run out and buy the soundtrack.

Twilight! I didn’t really say much about it before except that I liked it, and I did. And I would see it again and I will own it and I also laughed at parts in the movie that I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to laugh at and the special affects were just ‘eh but I still enjoyed the movie. I wouldn’t go so far as to say this movie is for everyone and everyone should watch it but it’s a good one!

Four Christmases was actually better than I expected. I’ll admit I read some not-so-great reviews of it and I was skeptical going into it but I really enjoyed it. It was a pleasant surprise! A couple is on their way out of town over Christmas and all flights get cancelled which lands them on the local news which tips off their families that they’ll actually be in town this year. So they have to go spend time with all four (divorced parents) families. It goes predictably bad but is still so-very-funny.

Quantum of Solace – Two words, Action Packed. And I mean slam packed. It was a decent movie and I’m glad I saw it in the theater because I’m not sure it would have been as good to just watch on TV. The plot was sort of hard to follow at times and did I mention Action Packed? I maybe could have done with a little less action if it meant a little more plot but hey.. It’s James Bond. It’s less about plot and more about kick-ass-ness anyways. This does, however, give me an excuse to profess my undying love to Judi Dench. Seriously, I love that woman.

And that means I saw three movies in the theater in the last couple of weeks. And also? It was freaking freezing in there for all three freaking movies! A friend of mine pointed out that it used to always be cold in movies but I had sort of blocked it out til she mentioned it so all three times I was completely unprepared for the cold and I should have brought a jacket because my sweater was just not sufficient. COLD.

I Want to Believe

Yeah, so I’m a dork. I’m going to see the movie tomorrow at 4:20 after work. I even went by today and bought tickets on my way home. I’m psyched.

It had better not suck.

I have moderately high hopes! Plus if it sucks I’ll feel at least a little bad for dragging Nate along with me.

Lazy Sunday

It’s been a pretty quiet weekend so far. I feel kind of like we’re tethered to the house right now. I’m afraid to go too far away from home without the dogs because if we get called for a showing we have to go back home to pick up the dogs. Yesterday the dogs got to go with us to CJ Woodmaster’s, Chili’s, Circuit City, and the grocery store. They still get super excited about puting their leashes on but I’m afraid they’re getting tired of the mobile crate.

We had one showing yesterday and we have one scheduled for today. I guess it’s starting to slow down some, which I think is normal, but still.. I was starting to worry what if no one came at all this weekend?!

So I’ve been trying to watch movies that are On Demand on HBO and Showtime lately. So far I saw Children of Men (which was OK but not great) and Smokin’ Aces which I liked pretty well. I have to admit *spoiler alert* I might have enjoyed it a little more if not for the part where as soon as they mentioned plastic surgery and that the FBI agent that was killed I figured out that he was really the big bad guy that was dying. I didn’t figure out the part about the heart and his son, but I knew he was the agent. Oh well. */spoiler alert*

Also, I don’t even want to admit it…. but we’ve been watching American Idol. I’ve watched a few episodes before during this part, but I’ve never kept watching into the regular season. With nothing else on though I’m afraid of being sucked in. I’m afraid I might actually care about some of these singers. WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME?!

Anyways, so far it’s been a nice lazy Sunday. We know we’ll have to get out of the house for a while eventually, but it’s nice to kind of sit down and relax.

Anyways, everyone ready for the Superbowl?! I’m totally pulling for the Giants. I have no real reason, I don’t really follow pro football but it’s more fun for me to actually have a team.

Bee Movie

If I see one more Bee Movie commercial I think I might explode. Seriously. Every other commercial seems to be for that Bee Movie and I really cant’ say that any of them have actually made me want to see it. Not yet anyways. Anyone actually interested in it? Is it just me?

Long Weekends Rule!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend. I wish I had something exciting to report but somehow I doubt you guys will find my new door knobs and new pillows to be quite as exciting as I did.

On Saturday I watched about 30 minutes of football before embarking on the shopping excursion of a lifetime with some friends. We went to Smithfield and I knew it would be a long trip because these ladies that I went with could seriously be professional shoppers. We left the house between 2 and 2:30 and did not get home until around 9:30. Subtract around 2 hours for driving and that’s still FIVE HOURS spent shopping. We totally redefined the phrase “shop til you drop” and I definitely wanted to drop when I got home! (To be honest I wanted to drop after about the third store but DANG those girls have stamina and ice cream helps).

I also managed to convince Nate to come shopping with me twice this weekend, once to buy new doorknobs (to go with our brushed nickel lighting scheme) and once to buy pillows. (Oh my god the pillows. The PILLOWS! They are so soft and comfortable and wonderful. I love them). We installed the new doorknobs but are still 4 knobs short as we thought we needed 4 dummy knobs that they didn’t carry in the store but have since decided the dummy knobs don’t exist so we’ll just buy 4 more hall/closet sets and only use the one side. Whatever!

We also watched Cinderella Man (loved it), Superman Returns (liked it), and I watched a few episodes of the Dead Like Me marathon on Sci-Fi on Monday. Awesome. Made me a little sad again though, that the show isn’t around any more.

Oh, and also? I learned about bat houses. Did you know there are bat houses, like bird houses but for bats? And if you put them on your tree hopefully nice bats will come live in them and eat your mosquitoes. Sounds like a win-win to me! I’m going to try to check out a bird store I know of this weekend and see if they carry bat houses.  I’ll let you guys know how it goes! Yay bats, boo mosquitoes!

I was on a Roll

For a while there it seemed like I was seeing every movie I wanted. Now it seems like I have a list a mile long of movies I want to see!

Harry Potter, Bourne Ultimatum, Hairspray, Rush Hour 3 (I didn’t even realize that was out yet!), Becoming Jane, Superbad, and Balls of Fury

I’m on the fence about Stardust, Mr. Bean’s Holiday (I do love some Mr. Bean, though), Transformers and the Simpson’s movie. I think those will wait for video. At this rate the rest will too!

Also I just read about the Last Legion which seems kind of interesting. I love ancient Rome so it kind of seems like something I’d like. I’d never heard of it though.

And of course I completely missed Waitress and Die Hard 4 while they were out.

I would say I need to get out more, but since Nate has started class I don’t think there will be much time for going to movies, and that’s ok. I’ll just have to get my Blockbuster card ready! Or maybe look into Netflicks, or hope it won’t take 2 years for these to come out on HBO! Or if I’m feeling super lazy I could always get them on Demand I guess.

And completely unrelated, I love how the spam comments try to say nice things like “I love your site” or “Great site, awesome work” or something like that. Like I’m going to be so blinded by the flattery that I’ll go ahead and approve their comment and completely ignore the 200 links related to v1agr@ and stuff. Please. I’m not that shallow.

Almost, maybe, but not quite!

And, We’re Back

*EDIT* I thought I posted this last night, but apparently I only saved it as a draft. Whoops!

It was a nice trip to Georgia! I tell you what, there is nothing funnier than watching a group of grown men making fools of themselves to make a baby laugh. It’s good to be home though. It’s always nice to sleep in your own bed. We made good time on the drive home and stopped in SC to see my grandparents and have lunch which was pretty nice.

Last night we watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on HBO on Demand. It was so funny! I was afraid it would take some convincing to get Nate to watch it with me, but I got lucky! Someone at work recommended it to him so he suggested it and everything! So.Funny.

This morning we picked the dogs up from Pupsi. Gouda must have had a very good time because he came home worn out and limping! They mentioned they brought him in early from day camp yesterday because of the limp so I’ll keep an eye on him, but I’m sure he’ll get over it with a little rest! Layne is also extra exausted so it’s been nice!

So yeah, it’s been a pretty uneventful first full day back and honestly, it’s 9pm and I can’t wait to go to bed.
