Oatmeal is Gross

And I need to make it less gross.

I had Nate buy me some instant oatmeal and I didn’t think to choose a flavor because I figured how bad could it be?

It’s pretty bad. Really really bad, actually.

So I need a way to make it less bad. I’ve started adding some brown sugar and cinnamon to it and that helps, but surely there are other options? Meg suggested I add yogurt to it, but that would be adding something I think is gross to something I think is gross and I have a hard time believing that would work for me.

Anyone have any suggestions?? Besides chucking the whole box or ODing on cinnamon and brown sugar?

    I like almonds and/or raisins. . . and sometimes those packages of dried fruit or crushed up granola. I’m with you — yogurt sucks.

    I don’t like instant oatmeal. There is really nothing to make it better. Make real oatmeal on the stove and add cinnamon and sugar and milk. Super yummy!

My go-to oatmeal is made with old fashioned oats (much better texture than the instant / quick oats), lots of cinnamon, dried cranberries, some milk or water, a pinch of salt, and some brown sugar. 1-2 minutes in the microwave.     Other things to stir into your oatmeal: peanut butter, chopped fresh fruit (bananas, apples, pears), dried fruits of all kinds, nuts, chocolate chips, nutella… I’ve even heard of people making savory oatmeal with cheese and bacon!

    Oh, and I used to think yogurt sucked too… until I discovered greek yogurt. It’s much thicker, like pudding, so I like it better.
