I ordered some books from Amazon last week. There was much waffling involved before placing this order because I could have picked up the paperback version of the books at Borders with no problem but later this year a fourth book in the series will be released and then I would either have to wait a year for it to come out in paperback or I would have to buy the hardcover book and have three paperbacks and one hardcover book in the same series. Sure it may sound like no big deal, but it’s not. I need to have the matching set.
This is a lesson I learned the hard way in high school when I bought all of the available Wheel of Time books in paperback, before I realized the series wasn’t even close to being over. Then they started releasing new books and I was faced with a choice. Wait months on end for the books to be available at the library, or suck it up and buy them. So I bought them. And now I have half the set in paperback and half the set in hardcover and it annoys the crap out of me.
Anyways, getting back to my point (yes, I swear there is a point).
SO! I ordered the three books from Amazon and books two and three arrived on Tuesday (despite the snow and crappy roads, the post man came, rock on USPS)! Wednesday I received an email from Amazon saying that they are no longer able to get their hands on book one and are very sorry but they’re canceling my order.
And I can’t find book one anywhere else that I’ve heard of. I’m considering taking a chance with one of those Amazon partner sellers but I’m not 100% sold on the idea yet.
I’m also considering sending the (pretty, pretty) hardcovers back and just getting the paperbacks so at least they match, but I’d really much rather have the hardcover version.
