I Require a Matching Set

I ordered some books from Amazon last week. There was much waffling involved before placing this order because I could have picked up the paperback version of the books at Borders with no problem but later this year a fourth book in the series will be released and then I would either have to wait a year for it to come out in paperback or I would have to buy the hardcover book and have three paperbacks and one hardcover book in the same series. Sure it may sound like no big deal, but it’s not. I need to have the matching set.

This is a lesson I learned the hard way in high school when I bought all of the available Wheel of Time books in paperback, before I realized the series wasn’t even close to being over. Then they started releasing new books and I was faced with a choice. Wait months on end for the books to be available at the library, or suck it up and buy them. So I bought them. And now I have half the set in paperback and half the set in hardcover and it annoys the crap out of me.

Anyways, getting back to my point (yes, I swear there is a point).

SO! I ordered the three books from Amazon and books two and three arrived on Tuesday (despite the snow and crappy roads, the post man came, rock on USPS)! Wednesday I received an email from Amazon saying that they are no longer able to get their hands on book one and are very sorry but they’re canceling my order.

And I can’t find book one anywhere else that I’ve heard of. I’m considering taking a chance with one of those Amazon partner sellers but I’m not 100% sold on the idea yet.

I’m also considering sending the (pretty, pretty)  hardcovers back and just getting the paperbacks so at least they match, but I’d really much rather have the hardcover version.

  1. HA, I can totally see where your coming from here. I never did finish WoT, how did it end? I have always had good experiences with the Amazon partners, if that helps.

  2. When you say Amazon partner, do you mean the “new and used” sellers? I usually buy those rather than directly from Amazon because they’re cheaper. Just look for someone with a high rating and who says the book is “new”.

Yah, Amazon marketplace is fine — it’s just like ebay — stick with the non shady lookin sellers and you’ll be good to go.

    p.s. WoT rocks

I use Amazon Marketplace Sellers all the time. I have bought probably over 1,000 items from different Sellers through the years. Most of the transactions have gone well and the items came as described and quickly. Occasionally you get a slow poke and I have had maybe 3 instances where I didn’t get my stuff, didn’t get a response and ended up filing a claim with Amazon. Amazon always ruled in my favor and the money was returned to me. Now I haven’t bought anything for over $100 dollar, but I have bought plenty of books, dvds, VHS tapes (before they became obsolete), games, makeup, perfume etc. Just check the feedback on the Seller. If they have shitty feedback then I won’t use them but usually there are plenty of others who have the same items and only pennies worth of difference in the price.

I just used an Amazon Partner (which is a little different) for a rare DVD I wanted. This was the first time I had used a Partner. I ordered it last Sun. night. They sent me an email the same evening showing that they had received payment and the DVD would be shipped on Tues. They stated that they were sorry but would not be unable to ship it on Mon. due to the Holiday (which of course I understood). Then when it actually had shipped on Tues. they emailed me again with a USPS tracking number, invoice, etc. I got the DVD yesterday (Thurs.) so it only took two days. Therefore I’m not afraid to try another Amazon Partner. The one I used had great communication, the DVD was new as stated and I got it super quick!

    Hope you get your book!
