Biting off More Than I Can Chew – AKA – Yard Work

I’ve kind of developed Lawn ADD. Where I now have so many things I want to do and so many things I’ve started that I don’t actually know what to do next any more.

I’ve torn up the front yard prepping for seeding. I killed weeds, pulled dead weeds, put down top soil to try to level out area, ran a hose to hopefully be able to water the whole front yard with one or two sprinklers, and roughed up the dirt.

I have also purchased 14 new plants. Two of them are decorative and require no digging. the other 12 will eventually be planted. Three of them require existing plants be torn out before they can be planted. I planted three of them on Saturday. It took me 1.5 hours to plant three plants. Holy crap I’m slow.

I’ve also started pulling up grass in the back yard to make a larger flower bed. Instead of being a little curved area in front of the AC units we want it to go from the deck to the fence, all pine straw. I’m about 1/3 of the way through that area ripping out grass.

So now that I’m in the middle of these three things I can’t freaking decide what comes next! I need to seed the lawn, put down wheat straw, tear up four plants (Nate), plant nine plants, finish tearing out grass and put down pinestraw in the new beds and I’ve already started picking out future plants to fill in the spaces after I get those other nine freaking plants planted.

I’m getting a little obsessed and it’s making me a little crazy. Poor Nate was stuck at work literally almost all weekend. He got home around midnight Friday and had to go back in Saturday at 1 and got home again around midnight. Then he spent a good part of the day Sunday catching up on homework. So I’ve been trying to get it all done on my own so he won’t have to worry about this one more thing that we’re trying to get done around the house, but apparently manual labor is not my strong suite (shocking, I know).

He has suggested that I tackle the grass part next. So I will seed, and put down the straw, and try to not get distracted by the thought that “hey I can plant those two plants and it can’t possibly take that long right?” which is sort of what I said before it took me 1.5 hours to plant 3 plants.

Anyways, I have high hopes for my lawn, and low expectations for my sanity!

  1. Wow, you are a yard genius! I need you to come over and tell me what to do in our yard. We know what we want it to look like when we’re done, but we have NO idea where to start.
