The Little Hippie that Wasn’t

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this or not but my parents are moving. Their house is sold and sometime within the next month or so they’ll be moving into a rental house until their new house is finished being built. This means that they have been doing some MAJOR purging, which means a lot of stuff that Meg and I had been storing there are being examined and tossed.

So yesterday one of the things being thrown out was a little desk that was out in the club house at the house in Georgia. On the desk was a puff paint peace symbol. As the desk was being put into the back fo the truck to be thrown out my dad noticed the peace symbol. “Who put that on there?” he asked. It was so totally me. I mean if you could have seen me in middle school and even into highschool and then see me now it’s just funny. I Can totally remember all the peace symbols and bellbottoms and stuff I used to wear. Hell, I even dated a major hippie in high school.

Somehow, it just didn’t take. Mom said that I was well on my way to crunchy granola-ness for a while there, but somehow they got me back. I’m not sure how it happened or when it happened, but she’s right. Somehow my peace loving non-meat-eating-ness got left behind.

Now-a-days I like to think of myself as more of a centrist, albiet a right-leaning centrist. It’s just funny to walk down memory lane sometimes.
